Introducing the latest member of the LANDR family.

Hey guys,

My name is Andrew, and I’m the newest member of the LANDR team. I’m super stoked to be here, and to be able to share my thoughts on music and production with all of you.

I first got seriously into music around age twelve. An older cousin came to visit from California and gave me my first punk tape — Crass’ The Feeding of the 5000. Before that, I had no idea that music could be so powerfully inspiring. What once felt like a distraction or a pastime instantly became the only thing I found myself interested in. I started sewing on patches, affixing studs and spiking my hair to show the world how interesting my new tastes were.

After that, there was no turning back. My best friend and I spent endless hours listening to his dad’s record collection — I remember being particularly blown away by Captain Beefheart’s Trout Mask Replica. I must have clocked ten thousand hours on allmusic.com going down the “influenced-by” rabbithole. I wanted to know every single thing there was to know about music.

Shortly thereafter, I started my first band. We’d play the community center, the Boys & Girls Club, and bars that didn’t check ID. At the time, we equated technicality and “chops” with good music. We played like we were trying to break the world record for notes-per-second. Our gods were Tony Iommi, Geezer Butler and Dave Mustaine. Riffs and solos were all that mattered.

Then, Dr. Dre’s Chronic 2001 happened. I caught the groove flu. I started listening to mixtapes and digging through record bins. I discovered Three Six Mafia and Swishahouse and DJ Screw. I suddenly realized — maybe there’s more to music than distortion pedals and sweeping arpeggios. Maybe it’s the passion that informs the music that makes it worth listening to. Or maybe it can just be fun.

These days, playing in bands and DJing is more of a hobby for me. But it remains one of the most fulfilling aspects of my life.

And now, after 15 years of obsession, I’ve finally made music my life’s work. It’s not in the way I expected (12-year-old Andrew figured he’d be touring the world by now), but having the chance to get involved with LANDR in its early years is just as exciting. I want to help change how the world makes and experiences music, and I truly believe we’re doing that every day here at LANDR.

I have so much thanks and appreciation for our wonderful community. I hope this is the start of a long and fruitful friendship.
